Maurice Denis wrote in the introduction of his famous essay from the
year 1980 :
"You have to consider, that a picture is a flat plain covered with colour,
before it becomes a charger, a nude woman or any anecdote."
The new works of Ljubo TOBOLAR shown in this exhibition are as
he never painteda charger, a nude woman or an anecdote also a flat plain
covered with colours, and they don't want to be anything else.
The title of this exhibition also is the motto of Ljubo Tobolar. The painter
renounces as much as possible of normal formation elements, which we remember
from the times of "Informel". Hints for the happening outside the picture
are missing completely. This "painting pur" in rigorous consistency. He
prefers an
unconventional form of painting.
Ljubo Tobolar, born in Beograd, lives in Vienna since the end of the war.
He worked as a restaurator after making his diploma at the academy. He
is master of all the skills of painting. His high knowledge enables him
to paint what he wants to paint.
He hasn´t to restrict to paint what he can. The artist doesn´t paint many
pictures an he doesn´t like to have many exhibitions.
But if he sets to work, it comes up to an inner necessity - he paints
the pictures
which must be painted .
